From the Principal's Desk November/December 2011

We have just given thanks to God for all His gifts during the beautiful Thanksgiving holiday and we now get ready for the greatest gift of all – the birth of His son, Jesus.  Advent is a wonderful time for families, not only because we are preparing to celebrate Christmas, but it is a chance to see that Christ is already living among us, not only in the love we share, but even in our struggles to forgive and to serve one another.  Advent reminds us that whatever joys or sorrows we might be experiencing, our lives are changing, growing to greater unity with Christ, as together we live out our Christian life.

Tomorrow grades 2-8 will receive their report cards.  I hope you will be happy with your child’s progress and that you will pay special attention to work habits and behavior.  Today some parents and students do not appreciate an average or “C” grade.  “C” is a good grade.  It reflects progress and learning and the mastery of at least 75% of the material taught.  The important question is not what grade a student receives, but rather is each student doing their best work.  If so a word of praise is in order no matter what the grade may be.  Of course an average grade from a student who can do better would not be acceptable.

As you reflect on your child’s report car, think about the following which are so important to living a happy, healthy life:  How does my child live with others?  Is he or she a peacemaker? Care for other? Good at fixing things? Have a sense of humor?  Like to pray?  Have a sense of fairness? Praise others?  A good listener? Remember to praise these qualities too.

As I write this, the students are working under the direction of Mrs. Avelar on the musical, “Star of Wonder.”  The Christmas program will be presented in the Church on December 15th at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is invited!  The entire performance will take about an hour.

May the peace of Christ be with you and your family this season as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of the Lord.

Blessings,

Candice Kuzmickas
