5th Grade Monthly News - March, 2012
I am amazed at how fast time has flown this school year! We have begun our third trimester this month and we are quickly approaching the end of the school year. I have watched this class grow so much this year, and I am truly looking forward to seeing what this last chapter together has in store for us. We have started our Family Life unit, and the discussions our class has had are a true testament to how mature the Fifth Grade has become mentally, physically, and most of all, spiritually. I am so proud of my students and their families as they take this journey of understanding their faith and themselves in a much deeper way.
Additionally, I am looking forward to finishing up our United States Geography Unit and starting our big project of the year: the State Report!! The students are thrilled to be getting their state assignments and I can’t wait to see their creativity shine. They will be presenting them towards the end of the trimester, and their ability to effectively communicate their project to the class will certainly be a sight to see. Another Social Studies topic we are diving into this trimester is the Revolutionary War. We are learning and assessing ourselves in various ways in regards to this subject matter. It is inspiring to see the students use their texts, multiple sources of literature, online sources, etc. to really understand how our nation was born. The “Walk Through the American Revolution” on-campus field trip experience is going to be an event that really helps cement the concepts of our American Revolution unit. It is always more meaningful to a student when they can actively participate in the learning process. That is what this trimester is really all about- the Fifth Graders taking charge of their own learning and hopefully making some terrific memories while gaining valuable knowledge that will stay with them forever.
God Bless,
Mrs. Stoops
