Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A
June 8, 2008
Read Sunday's Gospel, Matthew 9:9-13.

Gospel Summary
Jesus made his mission clear when he ate with tax collectors and sinners. Some chose to judge him by his company. Instead, Jesus explained that a person in good health would have no need for a doctor. Likewise, only sinners need the salvation Jesus promised.

Reflection for Families
As our children grow and socialize with other children in the neighborhood, schools, or faith communities, we may not always be pleased with their choice of friends. It's always a good idea to be in touch with who are children's friends are; but at the same time, we need to risk a little, too. Your children and your family may be an instrument of God's love and compassion for someone who may be looked down upon by others.

Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family
As a family, come up with a list of people who are "outcasts" in society. Perhaps there is a person at school, or a family in the neighborhood. Maybe you know of someone who is separated from society either in a hospital, nursing home, or prison. Write a prayer for these people, or make a card letting them know you are thinking of them. If possible, spend some time with some of the people you have listed.

Discussion Starters
1. I know of at least one clique that I wasn't part of. When I was around them I felt . . .
2. It took a lot of courage for Jesus to eat with sinners and tax collectors because . . .
3. I hesitate to offer my friendship to unpopular people because . . .

Our Volunteer drivers- who dedicate time from their busy day to drive students and deliver lunches to and from the shelters every month…. Giselle Smith, Brenda Luna, Shelly Hughes, Germel Salvador, Gloria Sanchez, Michele Cote, Liz Busque, Heather Hoynes. You have been so wonderful!!!!

Mrs. K – for wholeheartedly supporting DBL year after year.

Faculty & Staff – for embracing this program by allowing us to use class time to make lunches with your students and to teach them about hunger and poverty.

Mr. Hagman – for doing DBL assembly announcements with such enthusiasm. Best of luck to you!

CJSF – for doing an efficient job collecting, sorting, and tallying lunches month to month. You’re awesome!

Mrs. Jimenez – for your kindness, love for the poor, and monetary contributions to DBL.

Peggy Venti and Brenda Luna – who have graciously volunteered to use their time and talent next year as new DBL team members. Welcome to the team!

You and your family – not just for donating tons of lunches every month, but also for showing us what our schoolis made of: a caring, generous, community of faith that works together to “ love our neighbors” by helping to meet the basic needs of the poor. In this way, you model holiness for your children. It’s a privilege to be a part of this kind of community. Together you have contributed more than 15, 374 lunches since 2004. WOW !!!
