Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C November 18, 2007 Read Sunday's Gospel, Luke 21:5-19
Gospel Summary It is clear from this passage in Luke's Gospel that when the world ends, some terrifying events will occur. The clear message, however, is that we should not face these events with apprehension, but rather with trust that God wants us to have everlasting life with him. Instead of being afraid, we are called to find strength and courage in God's love and persevere in our faith.
Reflection for Families Sunday's Gospel makes it clear that we should persevere in our faith and be faithful disciples. We are most responsible for evangelizing our own children. There is an expression, faith is caught, not taught. How do our children see us live out our faith? How do we witness the greatness of God's love and our personal response to that love? Share with your child(ren) what it means for you to walk with Jesus.
Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Find a copy of Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco at the library or Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. Read the book as a family and talk about who was there when someone was afraid. Ask one another who helps us when we're afraid. The answers may be predictable or you might be surprised. In either case, it's good to remind one another that Jesus is always with us . . . especially when we are afraid.
Discussion Starters 1. Once I was really afraid, but I found comfort when . . . 2. The most challenging part of my witnessing for Jesus was when . . . 3. My faith is strongest when . . .
