HNM FAMILY BULLETIN-Christmas, 2007 (To Download in MS Word Click Here)

Dear Parents,

Greeting and Christmas blessings during this Advent season! As this year draws to a close, my heart is filled with gratitude for all the blessings that God has bestowed on us. At Thanksgiving, our feast netted a profit of $1,100 for our sister school, Immaculate Conception in Los Angeles. Recently you and your children generously supported the 6th grade’s food drive, helping feed the hungry in our community, and the 7th grade’s service project to collect Yoplait Yogurt Lids for breast cancer research. The Pre-K and 4th grade visited the seniors at Canyon Terrace to sing songs and play games with our elderly friends, and the kinder kids are doing “good deeds” to purchase diapers for the babies at the homeless shelter. The Student Council’s sale of Santa Grams will mean Christmas gifts aplenty for an underprivileged family in our sister school and as I write this, the CJSF has begun their annual Tijuana Mission appeal for toiletries. The November PTG meeting was well attended and those who came left with simple and practical ways to keep Advent alive in their families. What wonderful ways to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas!

I am so grateful for the teachers and school staff, who witness daily to God’s love and care for the children. I am grateful for Fr. Tom, our parish staff, and the parishioners, who love us and support us in our ministry. I am grateful for the students whose smiles, love, generosity, and enthusiasm light our days, and I am grateful to you for your sacrifices, hard work, love, and kindness in support of our efforts. The faculty and staff join me in thanking you for your caring support throughout 2007.

As I watched the children perform the Christmas program last Thursday evening, I couldn’t help but notice the smiles on your faces. I hope that you loved the show as much as we loved performing for you.

Special thanks to Mrs. Avelar and Mrs. Buckhannon for their extraordinary work directing the program.

The parish penance service is this evening at 7:00 p.m. This special celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation gives you and your family an opportunity to prepare yourselves spiritually for the coming of Christ. Please plan to attend and be a part of our worshipping community.

The PTG invites you to “Remember the Past, Celebrate the Present,” a 50th Anniversary Celebration on March 1, 2008. If you are new to our school or have never attended our dinner dance, you won’t want to miss this event! It is always a spectacular evening.

Coming up at the end of January is Catholic Schools Week. Some of our favorite activities occur during this week: Open House on Tuesday, January 29, and Special Persons’ Day on Friday, February 1. More information will come home in January.

During this season of wonder and joy, I pray you and your families are filled with the peace and love of God. Merry Christmas from all of us at Holy Name of Mary School and great blessings to you and yours in the New Year.

God’s love and mine,

Candice Kuzmickas
