Homework
-
Holy Name of Mary students are expected to:
-
spend one-half hour on homework in Grades 1-2
-
spend one hour on homework in Grade 3-4
-
spend one and one-half hour on homework in Grade 5-6
-
spend two hours on homework in Grade 7-8
These times represent an average; some nights the assignments may take more time. Some children also take longer to do their work. Furthermore, homework assignments are not always written; adequate time should be spent reading, studying, and preparing for tests and long-range assignments.
-
Homework assignments are given for the following reasons:
-
to teach students responsibility
-
to allow students to work independently
-
to reinforce skills learned at school
Homework is usually given Monday through Thursday nights. If a student has been absent or has long-range assignments, he/she will be expected to do school work on the weekend.
Homework or schoolwork missed through absence is to be made up within a period designated by the teacher (usually two days times the number of days absent). It is the responsibility of the student to approach the teacher to request this make-up work.
